GIG clubs from Bridport and Lyme Regis converged in Swanage where the town’s sea rowing club played hosts.

For the mixed event, Lyme Regis made a good start and maintained a midfield position among some strong opposition, eventually posting a very credible 7th position from 13 crews.

Following this was the ladies’ vets’ race.

Again, a field of 13 boats entered and the race was underway with the club’s ladies making a dash for the first marker, settling into the pack of front runners, eventually crossing the line in sixth place.

Next up was the men’s vets. After a challenging first half, they settled into the race, bringing ‘Black Ven’ home in an impressive fourth place.

The ladies’ B crew retained their consistency, settling in to around midfield to finish in eighth position.

The Lyme club’s ladies’ A team finished ninth. Lyme’s men’s section secured an excellent result in the C category, working hard to take an early lead to emerge victorious.

Lyme B also secured a win to make it two from two for the men’s section.

Reduced A crew numbers meant there were vacant seats in this boat. These were filled with two of the B crew.

This, the final race of the afternoon, saw Lyme finish fourth.

The points tally, from 13 crews, confirmed the Lyme Regis club as finishing in fifth position overall.

Meanwhile, the club from Bridport also enjoyed success in Swanage.

Their day began with a huge win from the juniors, who were victorious in the under-16s race.

The mixed crew, ladies’ vets, ladies’ B and ladies’ A all secured fifth places in their races.

The men’s vets and men’s C crews came sixth and the men’s B group finished fourth.

The last race of the day saw Bridport men’s A finish third, leaving the club in fourth place overall.

Bridport are looking forward to their own regatta, which is being held on Sunday.
