FIFTY-ONE Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club members, maybe war-med by the festive spirit, braved the cold wind on Sunday morning to compete in a three-man Team Texas Scramble, writes Peter Crowter.

The winners, with a two-stroke lead on their gross score, were Barry O’Mahony (10), Dave Travers (13) and Bob Harding (15) with a score of 66-6.3=59.7.

Runners-up were Doug Miners (13), Pat Hart (15) and Mike Barter (16) with 68-7.3=60.7. In third place were Martin Horton (12), Ian Thacker (14) and Derek Griggs (23) scoring 69-8.1=60.9.

Ladies’ Section

CRAZY Golf was the order of the day on Tuesday, writes Lyn Hargrave.

Not a huge field but those that did come up and throw caution to the winds had a very enjoyable time.

It was only nine holes but any nine you liked as long as it’s going forward, so not quite as anarchic as one might think.

The competition was played in pairs, with each score to count; single on the par threes, double on the par fours and triple on the par fives.

So the course was full of members chasing the par fives and trying for the maximum points, which entailed walking the whole 18 but only playing nine.

The wind was in keeping with the title of the competition threatening to blow the lighter ladies over.

Putting was particularly difficult with the ball oscillating all over the place, despite this the scores were more than respectable.

The tournament closed in the clubhouse with mulled wine and mince pies.

RESULT

Winners: Liz Thompson (lady captain) and Ruth Donovan (79pts).

Second: Di Stothard and Sue Winkle (64pts on countback).

Third: Lyn Hargrave and Jan Clark (64pts).
