THERE were 61 entrants for the men’s Sunday Stableford competition at Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club, writes Peter Crowter.

The top scores in Division One were relatively modest compared with the lower divisions with Graham Blunden coming out on top after countback from Martin Horton, both with 36 points.

The highest score of the day came from George Brown in Division Two, who finished first with 41 points.

Next was Michael Barter with 39 and third was Rod Condliffe with 36.

The Thursday competition was the Christmas Texas Scramble, and it kicked off with mulled wine for all and a collection of Father Christmas headgear.

There were 16 three-man teams competing with a minimum of four drives per player to be used and handicap allowance 1/10th of the combined total.

Conditions were not made easy by a stiff south westerly wind, but nevertheless the top four teams all achieved sub 70 scores.

Secretary Brian Savery (19), Ed Hanson (17) and Dave Cole (26) came in with a winning score of 65.8.

Runners-up were the trio of Brian Fearon (11), Dave Rendell (21) and Colin Clark (23) scoring 67.5.

A whisker behind in third place were Richard Lomax (13), Brian Osborne (23) and Robert Froy (28) with 67.6.

Ladies’ Section

A YELLOW ball competition meant that the player with the yellow ball, which passes from each golfer in turn, doubled her score for that hole.

The early players had a fresh start with the fairways covered in a light dusting of frost.

Unfortunately, later on the sun wasn’t strong enough to counteract the freshening wind and by midday it had disappeared behind the clouds.

This didn’t stop the winning team of Nicky Stone, Sally Woolmington and Lyn Jessop galloping round the course to finish 10 points ahead of the field.

RESULTS

Yellow ball team competition: 1 Nicky Stone, Sally Woolmington and Lyn Jessop 93pts, 2 Liz Thompson (lady captain) and Sue Pollock 83pts, 3 Di Stothard, Lyn Hargrave and Pat Baldwin 82pts.
