THE final race of the Area League season took place at the Sir John Colfox School – and it turned out to be a glorious day for the hosts.

Colfox’s Year Seven girls’ team clinched overall victory in their age group by the closest of margins.

Both they and Dorchester Middle School scored a total of 30 points on the day but Colfox took the league title by just one.

Maddy Herbert won the individual crown, as did fellow Colfox pupil Zakjohn Ousley in the Year Seven boys’ event.

Colfox’s Year Seven boys also needed to win the final race to guarantee the shield, and they did so comfortably, scoring the lowest team total of 15 points.

The junior girls are arguably Colfox’s strongest team and the only race they have not won this season was the Southern England final where they finished fifth.

With a total of 18 points, the biggest winning margin in any race, the team took the overall title – St Osmund’s Maddy Johnson was the top individual.

And Colfox’s junior boys made it three wins out of three in the league, despite missing a few of their strongest runners.

Tom Crabtree made it three wins out of three and was the only individual to do this.

The Inter-boys team had to win or finish second to secure the crown at the expense of a very strong Woodroffe outfit.

In the end, they had to settle for second but shared the shield.

Dane James took the individual award, which also came down to the last race and an exciting sprint finish at the end.

The Inter-girls performed as well as they could with limited numbers and training.

Overall they were second which was impressive considering the amount of athletes in the age group.

Woodroffe were the best team and Thomas Hardye’s Flora Johnson was the top individual.

n The organisers would like to thank AP Chant for sponsoring the event and Ashley Chant for presenting the trophies.
