TWO-TIME former Bridge Tyres and Wheels Wiscombe Park champion Craig Moore was the first competitor in the championship’s 13-year history to successfully defend his title back in 2012 – but this season he has entered the record books for another reason.

Having fought hard for a third win in the series, a feat duplicated this year by 2013 winner Mark Shillaber, the Lyme Regis driver took the runner-up position in his rapid Ford Cortina, claiming a cash prize, the Eric Moxom Memorial Trophy and a salver.

Although a very worthy performance, it was not Woolbridge Motor Club member Craig’s second place which has made history but the fact that a member of the next generation of hill climbers from the Moore family joined their father in receiving a major award.

Craig’s son Ryan added to the family’s success at the annual award presentation evening at Wiscombe House when he received the Ron Wilson Memorial Trophy for the best young driver of the year.

Ryan claimed the award at the wheel of his Ford Puma, which he purchased from a neighbour and then started competing in the road-going category.

Weymouth’s Geoff Blake defeated fellow Westfield driver Mike Williams for sixth place in the standings, while Vic Fancy, the chairman of the Woolbridge Motor Club , received the award for the best organised event of the season on behalf of the club.
