THE men’s Sunday competition was a Stableford and there was a good turnout of 72 entrants.

The best scores came from the lower divisions and the top score of the day was carded by Toby Eeles with 41 points in Division Two, where eight players scored 36 points or more.

Close behind was Duncan Jones, the winner of Division Three, with 40 points. Andy Dennis topped Division One with 37 points.

Division One: 1 Andy Dennis (5) 37pts, 2 Julian Green (10) 35pts, 3 Barry O’Mahony (10) 31pts.

Division Two: 1 Toby Eeles (14) 41pts, Dave Travers (13) 39pts, 3 David Corp (16) 38pts.

Division Three: 1 Duncan Jones (26) 40pts, 2 Paul Grey (22) 37pts, 3 Don McAllister (19) 36pts.

Eeles, Travers and Jones received a one-shot handicap cut.

There was a good attendance of 23 for the mixed Midweek Medal. Mike Chivers took the top spot after count back with a nett 70, ahead of Andrew Blackmore. Third place went to Jimmy Gbadebo with a nett 71.

Veterans’ Section A Greensome Stableford was the Thursday competition and 28 pairs turned out.

Just one point or a count back determined the positions between the runners-up team and the next 22 teams below them, and that emphasised the margin enjoyed by the winners.

Bob Harding (15) and Terry Garrett (24) amassed 44 points which gave them victory by five points over Roy Gill (13) and PJ Huggins (20) with 39 points. In third position was Ed Hanson (17) and Tony Udall (24) with 38 points.

Ladies’ Section

The Saturday ladies had the best of the weather in the Daily Mail Foursomes, writes Lyn Hargrave.

The winners, not surprisingly, came from that group, but only just, with a valiant effort made by the Tuesday runners-up.

The Daily Mail Foursomes is a national competition.

The winners go through depending on the overall scores, 24 ladies played in all, four from Saturday and 20 on Tuesday.
