BRIAN Fearon won the veterans’ Thursday competition, the George Adams Cup, a medal played off the white tees which was also a fundraiser for the RNLI.

Forty-six entrants enjoyed some warm sunshine after a chilly start, but when the rain arrived 16 players decided their scores at that point did not justify further discomfort and so retired to the clubhouse.

One man with every reason to complete his round was eventual winner Fearon, the only player to card a sub-70 score.

A sum of £220 was raised for the RNLI on the day.

Div One: 1 Brian Fearon 79-10=69, 2 (acb) Richard Fox 89-18=71, 3 Dave Boggis 90-19=71, 4 Richard Lomax 86-14=72

SIXTY men took to the course on Sunday for the men’s individual Stableford.

Dave Travers topped Divison Two with 35 points and Andrew Harrison was the leader in Division Three on 34.

RESULT

Div One: 1 Phil Winton (10) 36pts, 2 Steve Crabb (6) 33, 3 Matt Gale (8) 32

Mixed Competitions

DESPITE the fine weather there was a modest turnout of eight players for the Mixed Midweek Medal.

The winner was Mike Harvey with a score of 81-9=72, while runner-up after countback was Dave Howat (89-16=73) from Di Loving (85-12=73) in third. There was an individual Stableford on Bank Holiday Monday open to all sections of the club.

Lighter winds than the previous day accounted for a considerable improvement in the scores for the 39 entrants and the winner, Jon Legg-Bagg, scored 41 points.

Legg-Bagg had his handicap reduced by two strokes and Michael Thompson by one.

RESULT

1 Jon Legg-Bagg (14) 41pts, 2 Michael A Thompson (14) 39, 3 Kieran Mulhall (7) 38, 4 Duncan Jones (26) 37

Ladies’ Section

A TOTAL of 21 pairs played the club round of the Ladies’ Ping 4BBB competition run by England Golf, writes Rosemary Shepherd.

They were lucky to escape the predicted rain and some good scorecards were re-turned.

The winners were Carole Brown and Marion Hurley with 38 points and runners-up were Sue Kelson and Carol Ponchaud with 36.

Carole and Marion now have to wait until mid-August to find out if they have made it to the Grand Final in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire.
