SIMON Willmott produced his best shoot of the season to claim first place in round 12 of Bridport Shooting Club’s month-end competition, finishing with maximum points to seal the Donegal Medal.

The round required competitors to shoot a .22 bolt action rifle, free standing, with five rounds of ammunition at a rise and fall standard 25m pistol target, with each shot being taken on the rise.

This is possibly one of the most testing target set-ups in the whole competition, and requires both accuracy and speed.

Jock Hedderwick, who has unfortunately missed so many rounds this season due to work commitments showed his class by taking second place.

Morgan Willmott and Neville Mason both scored exactly the same, but as it was the final stage, the countback system was used on their targets and Willmot took third place.

Martin Mitchard, who has challenged Willmott all season claimed fifth on the night and second place overall, with Shaun Flann in sixth spot.

This season’s competition has been one of the most open so far, and going into this round, there were several competitors capable of winning, but Willmott kept his nerve and was a worthy winner.
