FOUR Colfox teams travelled the short distance to the Bridport Leisure Centre to compete in the West Dorset Indoor Rowing Champion-ships.

The school has had huge success in this event since it began in 2012 and has always managed to get teams through to the Dorset final.

This year, they were quietly confident of doing well despite most of their teams competing for the first time.

The Year Seven team of Olivia Will-more, Rosie Hart, Dulcie Gatehouse and Bronwyn Wright got off to a good start by winning their event. Willmore recorded a county record and in doing so achieved the Gold Standard.

The Year Seven boys’ side of Emmanuel Cox, Marcus Burt, Nath-anael Wormleightion and Ethan Staddon also performed well and were nudged into second place by just eight metres. Staddon, who only joined the team last week, recorded an incredible distance and also achieved the Gold Standard.

The Year Eight boys’ team of Tom Crabtree, Tom Hughes, Thaisen Chant and George Wyrill were looking to better their second place in last year’s competition, and did so in style, winning by a big margin.

Hughes, who competed for the Year Nines last year, set a new county record and achieved the gold standard.

Meanwhile, the Year Nine boys were confident of doing well after making the final last year, and the team of Dane James, Jed Gravelle, Todd Langdon and Kieran Dunning did not disappoint. They set an incredible combined distance and in doing so James set a new county record and achieved the Gold Standard.

Headteacher Kay Taylor said: “I am always so amazed and impressed by the quality of the sport in school.

“Another brilliant day and for four national standards to be achieved, all by Colfox students, is incredible.

“Well done to all the students and thanks to all the staff.”
