BEFORE many people had woken Lyme golfer Tom Glover had completed two rounds of charity golf, as he started playing at 4am in the rain, the first of eight different courses in a day.

Carrying his own clubs, he zipped round Dawlish Warren, Exeter Golf & Country Club, East Devon, Woodbury, Sidmouth, Honiton and Axe Cliff and was well ahead of schedule before he played his final round at Lyme, which was slightly different.

For this last round, Glover was competing against George Seed to see who could go round quickest and with the best score.

Both set off from the first and 10th tee, respectively, and Seed finished first in just less than an hour, playing to only one worse than his scratch handicap.

However, Gower finished his round in just more than an hour meaning he had run over 40 miles and played eight rounds of golf all in aid of the Lyme Regis captain’s charities – Julia’s House and the Alzheimer’s Research UK.

While Seed was back to work, Glover was relaxing in the knowledge that his superhuman efforts had raised in excess of £500.

His thanks go to the professionals and members of all golf clubs who sportingly made way as he rushed through, and the welcoming team at Lyme.

n There were new entrants in the midweek Stableford at Lyme, including Colin Conn, who produced a steady score of 36 points to win from Brian Collis (35) and Andrew West (33).

In the Ladies’ Centenary Sword Stableford, competition Judith Williams was the supreme winner in Division One with 39 points.

She played two excellent halves to win by three points from Cyndy Mudford (36) and Jane Dixon

(35).

With the second best score of the day of 38, Ros Clemmans had a brilliant front nine, scoring 23 points to win Division Two with Amy Mudford second on 32, on countback from Julie Duke. Jane Dixon won the Committee Cup.
