COLYTON 2 LYME REGIS 1

BOSS Robin Townsend was “absolutely fuming” with his side’s display following their 2-1 reverse at Colyton in Devon & Exeter Division One.

The Lyme Regis chief insisted his team lacked desire on an afternoon in which they suffered their eighth league defeat of the campaign.

“We were poor right from the off, from the warm-up and everything. We took it right into the game and I am very disappointed with some of our lads,” Townsend said.

“All it came down to was that they (Colyton) wanted to win the game more than we did. At the end of the game I was absolutely fuming.

“It doesn’t hurt our lads when we lose unfortunately, I just can’t see why that is.”

Lyme actually went a goal up on the afternoon when a corner was swung in and put into his own net by a Colyton player.

But the Seasiders then failed to clear their lines following the break, allowing the home side a shot on goal which found the net to level the game up at 1-1.

And Colyton got the winner two minutes from time when a strike was spilled by Lee Cleal in the Lyme goal and ended up in the net.

But Townsend did not blame his goalkeeper for the defeat, instead branding a number of his squad responsible.

He added: “It proves we are a mid-table side until some of the lads realise how to win a game and what you need to do.

“You need to turn up on a Saturday and have the desire to win a game, we didn’t have that desire.

“We (the coaching staff) give up our Saturday to do stuff for them, to make them feel appreciated and wanted. When they performed like that it was very disheartening, I was actually livid.”
