LYME Regis are set to take a break from their respective league schedules this weekend to welcome a Showbiz XI to Davey Fort for an exhibition clash (2.30pm).

The showbiz outfit, made up of people working in London, is set to feature one actor from each of hit shows Game of Thrones, Eastenders and Coronation Street.

Explaining how the contest came about, Seasiders’ chairman Howard Larcombe said: “It comes through one of our former players, Andy Rattenbury, who is a script writer up in London.

“He has quite a local connection with the club with several family members who have played for the club as well.

“They will come down for a few beers and a game of football. It is nothing too official or organised but we would like to get a few people up there watching if possible.

“Last year they beat us 8-4 so we are trying to put a bit of a better side out this year. It looks like it could become an annual event.”

Meanwhile, Lyme’s first team went down 2-1 in their Devon & Exeter League Division Two opener at home against East Budleigh. Julien Simier was on target for the Seasiders.

“We deserved to win the game but didn’t take our chances and were punished at the back,” Larcombe added.

“The opposing manager said that he thought we would be promotion contenders. Having just come down from Division One, he knows what he is talking about.”
