LYME REGIS 3 ST MARTINS 5

THE Seasiders will have their sights set on reaching the second round of the Dorset Senior Trophy this Saturday as they take part in the competition for the very first time.

Lyme begin their trophy campaign away to Piddletrenthide Spartans of the Dorset Senior League (2.30pm), a week after exiting the Bill Slee Cup at the hands of St Martins Reserves.

Their chances of progressing in that competition were more or less over with only 20 minutes on the clock.

St Martins raced into a 3-0 lead in that time and then added a fourth before the break.

Joel Gostling pulled one back for Tim Edwards’ men but the Saints responded in kind to make it 5-1.

Lyme substitute Jack Durrant cut the deficit to three and a late Gostling penalty made it 5-3.

“We could have no complaints,” said Lyme chairman Howard Larcombe. “The better side won, though it was an entertaining game.”

Meanwhile, Lyme’s reserves lost 2-1 at Shepton Beauchamp in the Perry Street Premier Division last weekend.

They travel to Ferndown Sports Reserves in the first round of Dorset Intermediate Cup on Saturday (2.30pm).

The winner will be away to either Wyke Regis Social Club or Holt United Reserves in round two.

Lyme Bantams, beaten 2-1 by Normalair RSL in the first round of the Dorset Junior Cup in their last outing, go to Netherbury in Perry Street Division One this Saturday (2.30pm).
