AXMOUTH UNITED 1 LYME REGIS 4

LYME Regis responded to their first defeat of the season in emphatic fashion last Saturday with a 4-1 triumph at Axmouth United.

Tim Edwards’ men put a 5-2 loss to Henry’s Cronies seven days previously firmly behind them as they picked up another victory in Devon & Exeter League Division Three.

Lee Cleal opened the scoring from the edge of the box on 35 minutes and soon after Ben Whittington made it 2-0 following a chip over the United keeper.

Julien Simier added a third in the first minute of the second half and netted another on the hour mark to make it 4-0.

The hosts got a consolation inside the last 10 minutes but by then the points were well and truly wrapped up.

“We were a lot better than the week before and dominated the majority of the game,” said Lyme boss Edwards.

“We played really well in the first half and created a lot of chances, and we scored some good goals.

“It was also good to have Declan Ellis and Joe Bond back in the squad as they haven’t played so far this season because of injuries.

“They have been looking good in training and are both fit and available for this weekend.”

Lyme, second in the league table, host unbeaten Division Four leaders St Martins Seconds in round two of the Bill Slee Cup on Saturday (2.30pm).

In the Perry Street Premier Division, Lyme’s reserves beat Perry Street 2-0 and travel to Shepton Beauchamp next.

Meanwhile, the Bantams overcame Chard United 6-3 in the Division One Cup and go to Normalair RSL in the Dorset Junior Cup this Saturday.
