LYME Regis chairman Howard Larcombe is happy with the way the Seasiders’ first XI have adapted to life in the Devon & Exeter League, and believes the club as a whole is as bright as it’s ever been.

Manager Tim Edwards has guided his troops to second spot in the Division Three standings after five games, and although they suffered a 5-2 reverse to Henry’s Cronies last time out, the club chairman remains positive going into this weekend’s encounter at Axmouth United.

He said: “We have made a good start apart from a little setback on Saturday against Henry’s Cronies but overall I am very pleased and all three teams are quite strong with numbers and the club is pretty vibrant.”

Having switched the first team over to their new competition from the Perry Street Premier Division in the summer, Larcombe has backed the decision and believes it has been a refreshing switch.

“As the season has gone so far, we have been very pleased with the admin in the new league and it’s nice to see some fresh faces in the league and some different grounds,” he added.

“We couldn’t progress any further with the Perry Street League, we had been in the top two for the last five or six years. We weren’t running away with it every year but it was becoming a bit stale.”

The Seasiders’ chairman is not prepared to put a target in place over the next few seasons for the club, but remains confident about their plans in the future.

He said: “We will just see how it goes, we will certainly not be going down the route of bringing in players for money, and we will never do that.

“We are a grassroots club and we know where we are.”
