SOPHIE Keech made her wildcard entry to the Polish Junior Championship count by sealing the girls’ crown and claiming the overall title.

Taking on 55 players from 15 different countries, the former Lyme Regis youngster’s first round got off to a positive start with a birdie at the hardest-ranked par-five second.

That came after she had placed her third shot close to the pin.

Keech finished the day on one-over-par and with a two-shot lead in the girls’ tournament.

Day two started with inclement weather and the course swamped in fog.

But when that cleared and play got underway again, the delay had done nothing to dampen Keech’s spirits.

She played some outstanding golf, culminating with a birdie on the 18th to finish two-under-par, keeping her on top of the leaderboard by six shots from her nearest rivals.

As the sun shone on the third day, Keech was eager to get out and play her final round.

The pin positions were far tougher and, although the ground staff had work hard to maintain the fairways, the heavy rain of the previous few days meant the course was playing much longer.

But Keech got off to a blistering start as she birdied the first hole, hitting her second shot to within three feet of the pin and sinking the putt.

She continued playing steady golf and after nine holes was one-under for the day.

At this stage she was eight shots ahead of the field and birdied both the par-three 11th and par-five 15th.

A large gallery was waiting to congratulate her on claiming the girls’ crown with an overall score of three-under-par and a hugely impressive winning margin of 12 shots.

As the final group in the boys’ event came in with a winning score of two-under, Keech was declared the overall winner of the Polish Championship.
