HALWILL 0 LYME REGIS 6

LYME Regis seamlessly transferred their impressive early season league form to the cup with a stunning 6-0 victory at Halwill.

Not only did they see off a side from a higher division, the Seasiders secured their superb win in the first round of the Bill Slee Cup with 13 players unavailable.

After cruising home thanks to goals from Jack Durrant (2), Harvey Brimicombe (2), Richie Durrant and Mark Bailey, Lyme now host St Martins Seconds in round two on October 4.

They entertain Chagford in Devon & Exeter League Division Three this Saturday (2pm) and boss Tim Edwards is going to have a few selection headaches for that one, with all bar two of those 13 available again.

Reflecting on the cup success at Division Two Halwill and looking forward to this weekend, he said: “Winning 6-0 was a bit unexpected given that we had so many players out and they are in a higher division.

“We came out of the blocks really quickly and I think we took them a bit by surprise.

“The lads played really well and the two 16 year olds, Alfie Bellworthy and Callum Larcombe, were both superb.

“They staked a strong claim for a place in the side for the Chagford game.

“In a way it would be easier if some of the lads weren’t playing so well, but everyone is fighting for places.”

After beating Misterton 3-2, Lyme’s reserves lost 6-1 at Combe Reserves in the Perry Street Premier Division last Saturday.

They are without a game this weekend while the Bantams go to Winsham in Division One.
