UPLYME & LYME REGIS 128 (17pts) beat SEATON 122 (6pts) by 6 runs

CAPTAIN Steve Batey and Rhys Davies both claimed four-wicket hauls as Uplyme & Lyme Regis denied Seaton in dramatic style.

The visitors were just seven runs shy of victory when Charlie Warner bowled Joe Berry for one to give the home side the win in Devon League D Division.

Seaton started the game by winning the toss and electing to field first.

Opening bowlers Ben Libby and Ben Morgan made the most of the drying wicket by tearing through Uplyme’s top order, reducing the hosts to 27-5 within the first 10 overs.

Skipper Morgan finished with three wickets for a miserly eight runs.

It was left to Mark Batey and Alfie Bellworthy to try to rebuild the Uplyme innings and they were making good progress until they both fell with the score on 45.

Batey was bowled by Mit-chell and Bellworthy was caught by Mark Bray off the bowling of Toby Tucker.

Uplyme continued to struggle and, only a rearguard partnership between Paddy Barra-clough (35no) and Davies (7) that yielded 43 runs, enabled the home side to reach 128, including 44 extras, to give them two batting points.

Seaton made steady progress on 30 without loss when Steve Batey struck to remove both openers, Ed and Alex Hunt, in quick succession.

While ex-Uplyme batsman Bray was at the crease, Seaton looked as though they would reach their target, but when he was dismissed, caught by Har-vey Brimicombe for 43, the Seaton innings disintegrated.

Davies took three more wickets and Batey returned to clean up the lower order to also finish with a four-wicket haul.

Warner wrapped up the win as Seaton closed on 122.

In an excellent low-scoring game, Seaton skipper Morgan was left regretting the extras his side conceded in the field.

UPLYME & LYME REGIS SECONDS 183-9 (6pts) lost to SEATON SECONDS 187-4 (21pts) by 6 wickets

FORMER Axminster batsman Sean Perry bludgeoned 76 to guide Seaton to a comfortable six-wicket win away to Uplyme & Lyme Regis.

Uplyme skipper Rod Holmes lost the toss and the hosts were put into bat on a wet wicket.

And the home side were two wickets down in no time to the bowling of James Thomas, but opener Tyler Wellman and Tim Daniel decided to go on the offensive.

With some purposeful hitting they took the score to 73 before Wellman was needlessly run out and Daniel was caught in the covers by Ollie Pinnock off Ian Hunt.

The innings stalled until the Holmes family came to the rescue. First, brothers Wesley (27) and Daley batted positively with the latter rotating the strike to allow his sibling the chance to attack the bowling.

Daley was then joined at the wicket by dad Rod and together they contributed a further 50 runs to the total.

Rod scored a fine 32, including two sixes, and Daley remained undefeated on 24 to leave his team on 183.

The Seaton innings started disastrously when Neil Price had Rob Gibson caught by Daniel at slip without a run on the board.

However, from then on, Perry took control and smash-ed a quickfire 76. He was eventually caught on the boundary by a diving Wellman but by then the damage was done.

With a further 60 runs req-uired, Will Mudd continued the offensive and scored a fine 63 before he was caught one-handed by Daniel off the bowling of Wallace Blackmore.

Will Marshall had Neil Waterhouse caught behind but Seaton were always in control and cantered over the line with eight overs to spare.
