LYME REGIS 0

CREWKERNE TOWN 3

A CONTROVERSIAL second-half goal ended any hopes of a Lyme Regis treble this season, as Crewkerne booked their place in the final of the Challenge Cup.

The hosts were 1-0 down at Davey Fort when the referee chose to ignore a linesman’s offside flag, allowing the visiting player to go on and double his side’s lead.

Lyme boss Tim Edwards, pictured, was happy to accept that Crew-kerne deserved the win, but he was left to think what might have been if the second goal hadn’t been scored.

“We were poor on Saturday,” he said. “Crewkerne wanted the victory a lot more than us and deserved it.

“They went 1-0 up midway through the first half with a well-taken lob from outside the area.

“We were better in the second half and were still in the game with 20 minutes left.

“They then broke, our linesman flagged for offside and the referee ignored him.

“The Crewkerne bench agreed he was offside but the referee said he wasn’t.

“We were chasing the game then and conceded another from a corner five minutes later.”

Lyme now face 14 games in 36 days as they look to claim the Perry Street Premier Division crown and Dorset Intermediate Cup.

Their next outing is a week today when Winsham visit Davey Fort (6.15pm).
