LYME Regis have the chance to reach another cup final this weekend as they continue their pursuit of a historic treble.

They face league rivals Crewkerne Town in the last four of the Challenge Cup at home on Saturday (2pm), eight days after beating Normalair RSL in a Dorset Intermediate Cup semi-final replay.

That 3-0 win at Davey Fort means Tim Edwards’ men are potentially 90 minutes away from defending the trophy they won last term.

The Seasiders will now meet Allendale in the final at Bridport’s St Mary’s Field ground on Tuesday, April 15 (7.45pm).

It may not have been a vintage performance that got Lyme to the final, but goals from Harvey Brimicombe, Sam Farmer and an own goal did the job.

“It wasn’t the prettiest but we got there in the end,” said Edwards. “We had all the play and our keeper didn’t have a save to make.

“Their defender headed into his own net from Joel Gostling’s corner with 10 minutes of the first half to go, though they had a chance to level from the penalty spot but their man hit the bar.

“Harvey Brimicombe came on for Julien Simier and scored from an Alistair Rattenbury cross with 15 minutes left, and Sam Farmer got a third late on.

“We always seem to do well in this competition and the players are looking forward to the final at a local ground.”

Although his side is facing a major fixture backlog, Edwards insisted Lyme are still focused on finishing the campaign with three trophies to their name.

“The Challenge Cup wouldn’t be my top priority but we still want to win it and it should be a good game against Crewkerne,” he added.

Also this Saturday, Lyme Reserves host Forton Rangers in Perry Street League Division One (2.30pm).
