LYME Regis boss Tim Edwards reckons his team could face three matches a week in the end-of-season run-in as a consequence of this winter’s heavy rainfall.

The Seasiders are still chasing silverware on three fronts this term but have not played a single match since December 7 as a result of postponements caused by waterlogged pitches.

Last weekend’s home fixture with Misterton was the latest to fall foul of the bad weather and, given the forecast for tomorrow, Edwards isn’t confident Saturday’s trip to Beaminster (2.30pm) will be on either.

Lyme, like Beaminster, have only managed to play seven times in the league this season, however, Edwards’ men are as many points behind Premier Division leaders Crewkerne Town with four games in hand.

Despite being ready to make up ground on the two sides above them in the table, Edwards reckons it could be a busy conclusion to the campaign.

Commenting on the weather situation and what effect it could have, he said: “It’s crazy. The pitches are not getting the chance to dry out and when ours does get a chance it’s going to take a couple of weeks.

“I think it is worse this year. Last year we didn’t play at home for 13 weeks but we played away games in between.

“This time there have been 10 weeks without football but there’s nothing you can do about it which makes it a bit frustrating.

“We are training on Wednes-days and playing five-a-side every Saturday but it’s not the same as playing matches.”

He added: “We haven’t played since December 7 but are in a stronger position than we were at that point. Crewkerne have lost a couple and Perry Street have lost one and drawn one.

“But we’ll have to see how well we are playing with two or three games a week towards the end of the season.

“We’ve got 13 league games left, the semi-finals of the Dorset Intermediate Cup, and Perry Street in the Challenge Cup.

“If it does come to evening matches it will be about getting people back from work in time.”

Beaminster’s Memorial Field ground is council-owned and Edwards feels that if there are any doubts over Saturday’s clash going ahead then it is more than likely not going to happen.

Meanwhile, Lyme’s reserves are scheduled to host Netherbury at Davey Fort (2.30pm).
