LYME REGIS 3 (aet)

THE Seasiders needed extra-time to seal their place in the quarter-finals of the Dorset Intermediate Cup as the West Dorset outfit moved a step closer to retaining the trophy.

Joe Bond missed the chance to give Lyme the lead in the first period of extra-time when he blazed over the bar from the penalty spot after the hosts had been reduced to 10 men.

But skipper Matt Laing broke the deadlock, climbing highest to head in a corner, before Harvey Brimicombe put the holders in control with a second.

Brimicombe, on for Julien Simier, then netted again after the turnaround and although the hosts pulled one back it was too little, too late.

“Bournemouth hit the bar in the first two minutes but we were fairly comfortable after that, even though we didn’t get a winner in normal time,” said Lyme boss Tim Edwards.

The Seasiders will host either Parley Sports A or Wareham Rangers Reserves in the last eight on December 14.

This Saturday they entertain Millwey Rise in the Perry Street League Premier Division (2.30pm), but are without Simier and Ben Whittington for the match.

Jack Durrant comes into the squad and Edwards knows Millwey could be tricky opponents.

“They have been up and down this season and got a good result against Perry Street,” he added. “It will be quite a tough game against a team that are now our closest rivals.”
