LYME REGIS 5 WEST & MIDDLE CHINNOCK 1

THE Seasiders took their tally against West & Middle Chinnock this season to 12 goals in two games as they bounced back from the previous weekend’s cup disappointment in fine style at Davey Fort.

Julien Simier was on target twice for Lyme to help his side climb above their opponents in the Perry Street Premier League standings into third place.

Mark Batey got the scoring under way from Joel Gosling’s corner and five minutes later Simier converted Joe Bond’s cross to make it 2-0.

Bond got Lyme’s third after the break before Aaron Cleal made up for missing a couple of chances to score the fourth and Simier netted the fifth.

The visitors got a consolation with 15 minutes left and could well have added to that in the closing stages.

“We played 4-4-2 for the first time this season with Julien Simier playing just behind Joe Bond,” said Lyme boss Tim Edwards.

“It seemed to work well, Julien had his best game of the season so far, and we played some good stuff despite the conditions.

“We took our foot off the gas towards the end but would have been comfortable to go again had the match been closer.”

Club captain Matt Laing made his long-awaited return from injury as a second-half substitute and will be involved again this Saturday when the Seasiders visit Bournemouth University Staff in round two of the Dorset Intermediate Cup (1.30pm).
