LYME REGIS 0 BEAMINSTER 1

LYME Regis bowed out of this season’s Coronation Cup at the hands of Beaminster on a day when nothing went their way in front of goal.

Boss Tim Edwards admitted his side could have played all night and not scored, something they will hope to remedy when West & Middle Chinnock visit Davey Fort this Saturday (2.30pm).

Lyme reached the Coronation Cup final last season but fell at the second hurdle this time thanks to a 30th-minute strike from the visitors.

There had been warning signs early on when the hosts cleared two goal-bound efforts off their own line.

They played the better football after that but, when the visitors scored from a long throw, the Seasiders’ heads seem to drop and they were unable to find an equaliser.

“We’ve been creating chance after chance for most of the season so far but it was just one of those days on Saturday when nothing went for us,” said Edwards.

Beaminster have got a few big guys in their team and they had clearly done their homework on us as we aren’t the biggest of teams.

“It was disappointing because it was our first defeat of the season, but it was probably a fair result at the end of the day.”

Meanwhile, Edwards is aware that his team’s opponents on Saturday will be out for revenge after they were thrashed 7-1 by Lyme in the first round of the Coronation Cup in September.
