LYME Regis boss Tim Edwards admits club captain Matt Laing faces a tough task getting into the side given the Seasiders’ great start to the campaign.

Laing has been out of action with ankle ligament damage sustained in a pre-season friendly but is expected to return to action in a couple of weeks.

However, following an impressive run so far in league and cup, those holding the jerseys at the moment won’t want to give them up without a fight.

“We’ve been playing well and we seem to be getting more and more players fighting for positions,” said Edwards.

“Although Matt is club captain he will still have to work his way back in like anyone else.

“He should be available for our Dorset Intermediate Cup game on November 9 and it will be good to have him back.

“He picked up his injury in pre-season and tried coming back but didn’t have the strength in his knee, since then he has been getting back to full fitness.”

Lyme host Beaminster in the second round of the Coronation Cup this Saturday (2pm) after last weekend’s league game at Combe Reserves was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Mark Batey, Lee Clifton and Aaron Cleal took the chance to turn out for Lyme’s reserves against Perry Street’s second string, helping them to a 2-0 triumph with goals from Pete Peacock and Steve Batey.

With the weather forecast not looking too favourable, Edwards reckons there may be a doubt as to whether his side’s cup game will go ahead.
