LYME REGIS 3 ALDERHOLT 0

A JOE Bond brace helped fire Lyme Regis to victory as the hosts got their defence of the Dorset Intermediate Cup off to a successful start at Davey Fort.

Mark Bailey scored the first and Bond got goals two and three in a comfortable win for the Seasiders against Bournemouth Saturday League outfit Alderholt.

The victory saw Lyme into the next round and kept their fine form going ahead of a trip to Combe Reserves in the Perry Street Premier League this Saturday (2.30pm).

Boss Tim Edwards is likely to have a familiar face back in the squad this weekend with Dan Rudge set to return to the fold.

The midfielder left at the end of last season due to work commitments but a change in circumstances means he is back and available to play for the club again.

And with Bond in form in front of goal, things are going well for Edwards and his men.

“It’s great to have Dan back,” said Edwards. “He has got a great engine and comes up with some important goals.

“And Joe is pretty much back to full fitness now after being away travelling for nine months.

“He is a handful for any defender and is really starting to click now.”

He added: “There seems to be a good spirit among the lads and a great atmosphere in the changing room.

“Winning helps and things are going nicely at the moment. Hopefully we can keep it going.”
