LYME REGIS 6 PERRY STREET 1

GOALKEEPER Will Meech was among the scorers for Lyme Regis as Karl Diment’s men underlined their status as runners-up in the Perry Street League Premier Division.

Meech came on as an outfield substitute midway through the second half to net Lyme’s fifth goal with virtually his first touch before Kieron White added a sixth near the end.

Julien Simier had levelled for the Seasiders 25 minutes in after Perry Street had taken a surprise early lead.

And it was all Lyme after the break with Jack Durrant on target either side of an Adam Caddy brace before Meech and White sealed the three points.

Lyme player-manager Diment was pleased with the result and was philosophical about his side’s season overall as they finished their league campaign 10 points behind champions Winsham.

“It was a good finish to the season and nice to end on a high,” he said. “I think that over the course of season you couldn’t say Winsham weren’t worthy winners.

“For us, it was always going to be difficult retaining our title. It’s hard winning it but retaining it is another thing.

“It will be interesting to see how Winsham do next season when everyone will be out to beat them.”

He added: “We dropped too many points against mediocre sides when we should have been picking up all three.

“But coming second and reaching four cup finals and winning the Dorset Intermediate Cup is still a very reasonable season.

“Next season we need someone who is going to score 30-plus goals for us because that’s what we were missing this time.”

Lyme had beaten Farway United 4-2 at Davey Fort in their penultimate match of the campaign last Wednesday.
