LYME REGIS 3

CREWKERNE TOWN 4

THE Seasiders lost a third cup final of the season just days after their chances of becoming Perry Street Premier League champions were ended.

They led 2-0 and 3-2 against Crewkerne in the Coronation Cup final at Millwey Rise before conceding twice in the last six minutes of normal time.

Monday’s disappointment came after defeats in the Chall-enge Cup and Crewkerne Hospital Cup finals earlier in the season – Lyme did win the Dorset Intermediate Cup.

And in the league, the best they can now hope for is second place following a 2-1 reverse at home to leaders Winsham last week, a game in which Dave Matthews scored their only goal.

Lyme were third, two points behind Crewkerne, before last night’s home clash with bottom side Farway United and boss Karl Diment is eager for his players to finish the season on a good note.

“It was a disappointing couple of days,” he admitted. “We were unlucky in the Winsham game and should have been out of sight by half-time.

“Then we went 2-0 up in the first 20 minutes against Crew-kerne through Will Mowbray and Jack Durrant.

“They got two back before the break then Matt Laing’s header made it 3-2 before they scored twice to win it. I was expecting it to go to extra-time and was holding two substitutions back but they scored and it was too late to do anything.

“If we had taken our chances against Winsham and Crew-kerne it could have been a different story but now we need to focus on finishing runners-up in the league.”
