LYME Regis sailor Mary Rook has won a silver medal at the World Sailing Championships at Hyeres, France.

She was crewing in the new Olympic boat for women, the 49erFX, with Weymouth helmswoman Charlotte Dobson.

The duo dominated in the few windy races but struggled in the lighter, shifty winds that characterised most of the week-long championship.

Rook is a member of Lyme Regis Sailing Club and learned to sail in its youth programme, and is a member of the GBR sailing squad.

She is a graduate in Sport and Exercise Science from Exeter University.

Since learning her sailing at Lyme, it has been a major part of her life and she became part of the British sailing team in 2004.

Following three years of match racing at international level, she has moved across to the new Olympic Skiff class for women.
