KARL Diment says Lyme Regis will be resigned to losing out on the Perry Street League’s top prize tonight if they don’t beat leaders Winsham at Davey Fort (6.15pm).

The Seasiders drew 2-2 with Millwey Rise on Monday, a result which boss Diment feels has virtually ended their hopes of retaining the Premier Division crown anyway.

Winsham are top of the table by two points from Crewkerne Town, who have finished their fixtures, and four ahead of Lyme with a game in hand.

So, even if they were to win tonight, Diment’s men would still need other teams to do them a favour next week when the campaign comes to a climax.

“We let it slip on Mon-day,” said Diment. “If we had won that and tonight’s game we would have gone top of the table for the first time this season.

“Winsham would still have had a game in hand but they have to play three times next week and it may have put some doubt into their minds.

“But all the hard work we’ve done was wasted on Monday and we didn’t deserve to beat them.

“If we lose tonight then the title has gone.”

Ben Whittington and Dom Rowe got the goals on Monday while Julien Simier (2) and substitute Tim Edwards netted in a 3-1 win over Beaminster last Saturday.

* Lyme are also scheduled to play in the Coronation Cup final against Crewkerne Town next Monday at Axminster (11am) before their penultimate league match two days later at home to Farway United (6.15pm).
