Lyme Regis 2 Gillingham Town A 1

MARK Bailey’s stunning late strike – his 100th goal for the Seasiders – gave Karl Diment’s side the Dorset Inter-mediate Cup at the Avenue in Dorchester.

The victory went a long way to making up for the extra-time defeat to Winsham in the final of the Challenge Cup last month.

Lyme trailed at half-time but drew level in the second period when Adam Caddy’s flick was put through his own net by a Town player.

Then with seven minutes left, Bailey hit a superb 25-yard effort that flew past the Town keeper to secure the trophy.

“This might just push us on for the remainder of the season,” said Lyme manager Diment. “We’ve got five league games left and the Coronation Cup final against Crewkerne, so who knows what will happen.

“In the first half, we couldn’t put three passes together and were not at the races at all.

“We had a chat at half-time to sort things out and as soon as we got the goal everybody was a lot more confident on the ball.

“What a time for Mark Bailey to score his 100th goal for the club. It had a lot of swerve on it and flew into the top corner.”

The Seasiders have two crucial Perry Street Premier League games coming up at home to Beaminster on Saturday and away to Millwey Rise next Monday.
