ILMINSTER RESERVES 3 LYME REGIS 3

THE Seasiders missed the chance to close the gap on the Perry Street League top four and were fortunate to come away from Ilminster with a draw after Adam Caddy’s late equaliser.

They trailed 3-1 and appeared to be heading for defeat when defender Dom Rowe volleyed in from close range and then Caddy, back from injury following a five-week absence, rescued a point in the 87th minute.

Caddy’s leveller means Lyme stay fifth in the table, seven points behind leaders Winsham with as many games left, while Ilminster remain one from bottom.

Julien Simier gave the visitors the lead on eight minutes – he was later replaced by Ryan Fifer due to a hamstring injury – but Ilminster took control and went into a 2-1 lead by half time.

The away side were caught on the break not long into the second half and were staring defeat in the face before Rowe and Caddy struck to make it 3-3.

“They could have finished us off with five minutes to go but hit the post and have got to be disappointed with a draw,” said Diment.

“We’ve got to be winning all our games and although we’re not happy with a point it’s one we’ll take.”

Lyme were away to Perry Street last night and host South Petherton on Saturday.
