WINSHAM 3 LYME REGIS 2 (aet)

SEASIDERS’ player-manager Karl Diment was disappointed with the result and the officials as 10-man Lyme lost the Perry Street League Challenge Cup final to Winsham after extra time.

Diment couldn’t have many complaints with the 75th-minute dismissal of keeper Chris Higgs for a second bookable offence but he was far from happy with the referee and two assistants, who he feels missed blatant “off-the-ball antics” from some of the Winsham players.

Despite trailing 2-1 when Higgs was red carded, Lyme fought back to force extra time during which Winsham’s man advantage told and they grabbed a winning goal to seal the trophy.

“It was a disappointment,” said Diment. “But I think if the referee or either of his assistants had seen some of the antics that went on in the first half Winsham would not have had 11 on the pitch.

“If the officials had spotted the off-the-ball antics going on it would have been a different scoreline.

“I’m not bitter and I congratulate Winsham on winning the game but what some of their players were doing was out of order and the referee didn’t take action and we paid the penalty for it.”

The Seasiders took the lead through Julien Simier after five minutes but were undone twice before the break to trail 2-1 at half time.

Then Higgs, who had been booked earlier for throwing the ball away, received his marching orders for a foul outside his area.

A stunning Mark Bailey free-kick levelled proceedings but when Winsham regained the lead in the first period of extra time there was no way back for Diment’s men.

Seasiders: Higgs, Clifton (Matthews 95), K White, Laing, Rowe, B Whittington, Bailey, Batey, Simier (J Whittington 75), Rudge (Hawker 65), Mowbray. Subs not used: Edwards, Diment.

* The Seasiders also came unstuck in the Crewkerne Hospital Cup final on Monday, going down 3-0 to Beaminster.
