CHARD TOWN RESERVES 2

LYME REGIS 2

A FRED Parsons double ensured a strong performance from Lyme Regis was rewarded with a point away against Chard Town Reserves in Division One of the Devon & Exeter League.

Goals in each half from Parsons, the first a superb team goal and the second a fantastic individual effort, were cancelled out by goals from Jake Board and Max Westlake.

Lyme were shooting down the hill in the first half which led to them dominating and camping in their opponents' half.

A wonderful one-touch passing move with six different players involved saw Parsons fire home from 10-yards out to give the away side the lead after 25 minutes, as a delighted Lyme Regis manager Mark Bailey said: "You will not see a better move in local football, it was a brilliant move."

After 35 minutes a miss-hit cross from Board looped over Chris Higgs in the Lyme Regis goal to give Chard a fortunate equaliser with their only real chance of the half.

Lyme were well on top and had several half chances with some great possession but their final ball was lacking as they could not find another goal as the first half ended with the two teams level.

With their opponents now shooting down the hill Chard came into the game and the teams were well matched.

Dominic Rowe, who had a superb game asides the mistake, when going towards a nothing pass through the middle let the ball run under his foot and Westlake ran onto the ball to shoot past Higgs and give Chard the lead after 60 minutes.

Lyme equalised 20 minutes later after Bailey picked up the ball in midfield, beat two people, then laid the ball off to Parsons who rocketed the ball into the net from 25-yards out.

From then on Lyme pressed hard for a winning goal as Julien Simier had a goal ruled out for offside and also fired one over from five-yards out but the away side could not find a winner.

Bailey said: "It was definitely a point gained.

"Their first team game was cancelled early in the morning so they were quite a strengthened side.

"It was a really good game in all honesty, both teams played a lot of football considering the conditions."

Lyme are next in action at home on Saturday against Wellington Reserves (3pm).
