HEAVITREE UNITED 0
LYME REGIS 5

LYME Regis thrashed Heavitree United Seconds to stay in the hunt for the Devon & Exeter Division One title.

The Seasiders currently sit second in the table, five points behind table-topping University of Exeter Seconds and four points clear of Colyton in third.

The rout was delivered with braces from Fred Parsons and Julien Simier alongside a single goal from Ben Turner, which made it a comfortable afternoon for the Seasiders.

Simier opened the scoring for the away side after 25 minutes when the Seasiders got the ball out wide and managed to get the ball to Simier, who dispatched it into the bottom corner from 15 yards out.

Turner added another 10 minutes later from a corner after he outjumped his man to head into the bottom right-hand corner.

The Seasiders started the second half well as they scored after two minutes when Simier got his brace after working well with Mark Bailey, who put him in to dispatch from 12 yards out.

This seemed to dent the home side as the Seasiders scored again soon after to end any hopes of a comeback as Parsons made it four on the 50th minute with a shot from the edge of the box.

Parsons completed his brace 10 minutes later after he broke through the defence and fired the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 5-0.

After this, Heavitree managed to stop the rot as Lyme could not find their clinical touch again as it finished 5-0.

Lyme manager Robin Townsend felt his side should have been ahead by more at half-time, as he explained: “If it wasn’t for our final ball and a little bit of a lack of clinical finishing we should have probably come in at least four or five up at half-time.

Townsend said: “All in all, we are pretty pleased.”
“We did our job and it could have been a lot more, but all in all I am pleased with a clean sheet and I am happy we got some goals.

“It was an all round good team performance.”
The Seasiders are next in action when they are away at ninth in the table Perry Street & Yonder Hill on Saturday.
