A BEAMINSTER soldier has been called up for a match between the UK Armed Forces’ rugby team and Wales.
Heidi Silcox, a combat medical technician, will win her 18th cap against Wales for the match at Cardiff Arms Park.
Playing at second row forward, she will be led out by Wales international Sian Williams who will be playing for the UKAF side.
Silcox will be part of the team looking to avenge a heavy 43-5 loss to the Welsh side last year.
Silcox said: “It means a great deal. It’s such a big occasion for UKAF women’s and women’s rugby.”
She first started playing rugby after a lecture led to a rugby session and she says she has never looked back.
College rugby coaches urged her to keep on playing after seeing she could do well in the sport and she hopes to continue that success.
The fixture will be a poignant match with it taking place close to Remembrance Day when 100 years ago the battle of Passchendaele was being fought.
Prior to the match there will be a remembrance ceremony with a two-minute silence.
The match is being played to raise money for war charities.
Silcox will play as part of the UKAF Women against Wales on Wednesday, November 8, kick-off 7.30pm with tickets available on the gate.
