AXMINSTER held their competition Finals which were played in glorious sunshine.

Three of the club's younger players, Steven Apsey, James Windsor, and Chelsea Maher all reached finals and indeed enjoyed some excellent results between them.

The results are as follows:

Men's four-wood singles: Winner James Windsor, runner-up Doug Looskan.

Ladies four-wood singles: Winner Margaret Crompton, runner-up Ann Clayton.

Men's two-wood singles: Winner Ken Webster, runner-up James Windsor.

Ladies' two-wood singles: Winner Margaret Crompton, runner-up Brenda Edwards

Open singles: Winner Steven Apsey, runner-up James Windsor

Men's '101': Winner Steven Apsey, runner-up David Harris

Ladies' '101': Winner Margaret Crompton, runner-up Chelsea Maher

Non-winners Cup: Winner Valerie Mellor, runner-up Norman Copland

Men's pairs: Winners Ken Webster and Doug Looskan, runners-up Steven Apsey and Mike Mellor

Ladies' pairs: Winners Ann Clayton and Margaret Brown, runners-up Philippa White and Sue Bond

Mixed 4-w pairs, Winners Ann Clayton and James Windsor, runners-up Philippa White and John Hill.

Owing to illness the three-wood mixed pairs will be played at a later date.

A club spokesman said: "Many thanks to Ann Burn who has efficiently organised the competitions throughout."

The men continued their good form in the Devon Over-60s' League with an excellent tie at Bradninch (36-each) with a win for John Hill, George Mabon and Alfie Day (23-22) before beating Tiverton Borough at home (48-12) with victories for John Ellis, David Harris and Bob Sherborne (25-5) and John Hill, Alfie Day and Doug Looskan (23-7).

However, the Devon club did not do well in the mixed friendlies.

First they lost at Chardstock (114-45) with no winners and then at Kingsteignton (83-49 with the best effort coming from Mike Mellor, Nigel Bond, and Ann Clayton (13-13).

The match at Honiton was cancelled as they were unable to raise a side.
