AARON Chambers bagged first prize in this year’s Frank & Peggy Daw Memorial Match competition.
Seven junior West Bay Sea Angling Club members and one guest signed on to fish from East Pier, West Bay.
The competitors enjoyed a cloudy but dry day, the wind was a south-westerly and the sea was lumpy.
Six of the entrants managed to catch fish.
As last year, Eden Lynham took an early lead with a legal shore rockling of 240g and ended the match with a legal weight of 240g and a total weight of 1kg 12g.
But this year he was unable to fend of the challenge from Chambers who managed to finish the match with a legal weight of 306g for a total weight of 1kg 53g to take the trophy.
Chambers walked away with a new rod and reel worth £300 kindly donated by the Daw family who also donated the second and third-placed prizes.
Species caught on the day were: wrasse, shanny, weever, rockling and blenny.
