BRIDPORT & West Dorset Golf Club’s Men’s Club Championship was held over the weekend incorporating the Scratch Cup, the Fraser Mercer Cup and the Peter Ridler Cup.

The Scratch Cup was won by Lewis Craddock with a gross score over the 36 holes of 154 making him club champion.

The Fraser Mercer Cup which is for best gross score for entrants with a handicap over 14 was won by Roger Galpin with a total over 36 holes of 177, won after a three-hole play-off with David Corp.

The Peter Ridler Cup for best nett score over 36 holes was also won by Craddock scoring 140.

Scratch Cup – Winner and Club Champion: Lewis Craddock 154, 2 Mike Savage 158, 3 Dave Woodruffe 163.

Fraser Mercer Cup: 1 (After play-off) Roger Galpin 177, 2 Dave Corp 177, 3 Howard Mills 178.

Peter Ridler Cup: 1 Lewis Craddock (7) 140, 2 Roger Galpin (17) 143, 3 Howard Mills (17) 144.

Saturday’s results: 1 Nathan Dunford (88-19=69), 2 (acb) Lewis Craddock (77-7=70), 3 (acb) Mike Savage (77-7=70).

Sunday’s results: 1 David Corp (84-16=68), 2 Howard Mills (86-17=69), 3 Steve Cleal (89-19=70).

The mixed midweek Stableford was won by Nicky Stone (6) and her 39 point score was well ahead of runner-up Peter May (27) with 34 points.

Veterans’ Section

THE Thursday competition for members was a self-entry, single division Stableford and there were 42 entrants.

The top three men all came in with 38 points and, after countback, Keith Hicks (19) emerged victorious.

Runner-up, after countback, was Dudley Rose (27) and in third place was Tony Burt (12).

Fourth place went to John Pacey (14) carding 36 points and in fifth was Marcus Beresford (15) with 35 points.

There was a good win for Bridport in the afternoon home match when the home team beat Dorset Golf & CC 5-1.

Ladies’ Section

SATURDAY saw ladies playing for the aptly named Saturday Cup, writes Di Neal, and the winner was Nicky Stone with 36 points closely followed by Sally Woolmington with 35.

Tuesday’s Midsummer Madnesses saw the ladies up and about rather earlier than usual, a 7am shotgun start saw bleary eyed golfers teed up ready to go.

Members all then sat down to breakfast and captain Janie Dowling presented prizes to the three highest scores.

In third place was Pauline Mackie with 31 points, the runner-up was Julie Oliver with 33 points and finally the winner of this year’s trophy was Carole Hedley with a score of 35 points.

A friendly at home against Lyme Regis resulted in a win for the visitors and Bridport also lost a mixed friendly played at Came Down.
