SIXTEEN-year-old Georgy Ivakhnenko has become Bridport Squash Club’s junior champion.

In a thrilling, hard-fought finale to the competition, he had to come back from two games behind against his 14-year-old opponent, George Brent.

Having brought the match to two games all, it was all down to the fifth game which was very evenly matched and produced some fine rallies with excellent retrieving from Brent, who, at one time, held two match points.

But Ivakhnenko fought back and took four points in a row to take the match 12-10.

The trophy was presented to Ivakhnenko by former BSC junior champion and newly-qualified coach Neson Wood.

Both players have been learning squash at Bridport Leisure Centre for the past two years in classes run by club coaches Jason Martin and Steve Brake. The course classes run on Thursday afternoons.
