WEST Bay Sea Angling Club hosted the 45th Chesil Champs sponsored by the Angling Centre West Bay.

91 anglers took part in the competition which was fished between Burton Bradstock in the west to Dragon’s Teeth, Abbotsbury to the east and once again included the East pier at West Bay to accommodate those less able to fish the beaches.

After six hours of fishing, 22 anglers had managed to catch weighable fish, species caught were; plaice, dogfish, gurnard, scad, rockling & smoothound.

The total weight of fish caught was 45kg 623g.

Ian Dancey from Waterlooville finished top with nine dogfish for a total of 6kg 70g, while Rory Eastlake came runner up with 5 kg 744g, and Rob Marshall came third with three dogfish & four plaice.

Top lady on the day was Joan Johns who caught a scad of 362g.

As no junior managed to catch weighable fish it was decided to draw the winner out of the hat and the lucky junior was Matthew Taylor.

Ian, Rory & Rob won their share of a very healthy £375 super pool in addition to the top prize of £250 for the winner, £150 for second and £100 for third.

The flatfish pool was won by Rob Marshall with a plaice of 1 kg 673g and the round fish pool was won by Saul Page with a smoothhound of 1kg 701g.
