BRIDPORT manager Adam Fricker has called on the experienced members of his squad to lead by example ahead of their away clash with Brislington on Saturday (3pm).

The Bees are currently on an eight-game losing streak, and with confidence dwindling, Fricker believes his squad need to take a look at themselves.

He said: “I think confidence is low, that’s the reason why we lost on Saturday. We were 2-0 up at half-time, and they pinched one from a deflected free-kick and you just saw the confidence zap out of the lads.

“We’re trying to keep the mood as upbeat as possible, and I think we just need that rub of the green to get that first victory.”

Speaking about morale in the changing room, the Bridport boss spoke about trying to instil confidence in his team, and believe that even a small change can ignite their spirit.

He said: “You’ve got to make the players believe. I’ve spent some time speaking to some individuals and some of the more experienced members of the team, just to get them to take on their responsibility to an extent.

“The likes of Ryan Hayter, Mark Salter, Andy Martin and Leigh Bailey are experienced Western League footballers and right now they’re the lads that need to be dragging the other lads up with them, with their knowhow.”

On Saturday, the Bees will be lifted by the news that Ryan Hayer will be fit, alongside the potential return of star man Ed Butcher, although Ben Haines and Matt Condliffe are set to miss out through injury and suspension respectively.
