SEATON Tennis Club’s Emma Hurst has been awarded the Devon LTA Senior Player of the Year award for her contribution to county tennis during 2016.

It has been an outstanding 12 months for the Bath University student, who won a team bronze medal for Great Britain in the BNP Paribas Masters in France, beating the French and German number ones in singles and doubles respectively.

As well as this, Hurst reached a world ranking high of 870, qualifying for the Wimbledon British Wildcard play-offs, and took gold in the BUCS ladies’ Championships. She also did all of this while being committed to representing Devon throughout the year.

Her county achievements included enjoying 14 out of 15 wins in the Summer County Cup, followed by promotion to Division Four in the Winter County Cup at Taunton alongside Torquay’s Kendal Brown

A spokesperson for Devon LTA said: “Emma’s loyalty to the county is much appreciated and she is applauded for her success which is due to her hard work and focus, not to mention the support from her coaches, family, and Seaton Tennis Club.”
