LYME REGIS 4

ALPHINGTON SECONDS 1

LYME Regis got their East Devon Senior Cup campaign off to the perfect start with a 4-1 victory over Alphington Seconds.

A brace from Rob Fellingham as well as goals from Ben Clarke and Chris Herbst saw them home and into the next round.

Fellingham opened the scoring in the first half with an exquisite free-kick that found the top corner.

They were 2-0 up in the 55th minute, Herbst stroking home a confident finish before Clarke put the game beyond doubt, finishing off a wonderful team move.

With nothing to lose, the visitors went onto the attack and scored their only goal of the game soon after the Seasiders’ third.

The hosts had let their foot off the gas to concede the goal, but they applied more pressure afterwards, scoring their fourth late on.

Fellingham netted once again, this time slotting home a composed finish after Dec Ellis, Clarke and Mark Bailey had produced some exquisite football to set him up and round off the scoring.

Speaking after the game, Lyme Regis’ manager, Robin Townsend, said: “I thought the overall team performance was excellent.

“In the first 35 minutes, we were dominant and we controlled the game.

“It puts us in good stead, but we have no fixture on Saturday, which is very frustrating.”

The Seasiders are back in action on Saturday, September 24 when they travel to Wellington Town Seconds.
