AFTER a gap of several years, the annual Junior Boat Festival, fished out of West Bay, finally made it on to the West Bay SAC’s Junior fixtures list.

The weather was settled and 10 junior anglers signed on to fish aboard the Jolly Dodger.

After the points tally was added up, Ollie Butler won the top prize and trophy with 11 points.

Aaron Chambers was a close runner-up with 10 points and finishing in third position with six points was Jack Parkman.

The top three received tackle vouchers plus additional prizes for longest fish and best mackerel.

The club would like to thank all at Jolly Dodger Charters for making this trip possible and also Jason Salvador Swords for the main prizes and Lynn Mudford for additional prizes.

The match was fished over a four-hour period. Fishing was a little slow but all competitors managed to land fish – this was the first time the boat festival was fished to the club’s measure and release points system introduced in recent years.

This enables most fish to be released immediately unless destined for the pot or for bait use.

Species included pout, scad, bull huss, cuckoo wrasse, lesser spotted dogfish, ballan wrasse and mackerel.
