SHAUN Annetts feels his Bridport Reserves side are stepping into the unknown as they get set to start their Dorset Premier League (DPL) campaign against Wareham Rangers at St Mary’s Field on Saturday (3pm).

There has been many new faces added to the side, and Annetts insists this will be a common theme across the league.

He said: “Nobody knows what anyone is going to be like. Merley and Hamworthy Recreation will be strong but sides will have strengthened and some will have lost players.

“We’re confident that we will give a good account of ourselves and that we will get off to a good start at home after a reasonable pre-season.”

Annetts’ recruitment policy has favoured youth over the summer and the boss feels they can push on in the new campaign.

He added: “The potential of this squad is massive and they won’t be content to be playing in the DPL but moving on up to the Western League.

“We have a good blend of youth and experience and it will be a good mix.

“It’s a tough start for them (against Wareham) but I’m sure they’ll learn quickly.

“My side won’t be the same each week. Adam (Fricker, Bridport manager) will give me first-team players and that will change game by game.”

Missing for the Bees on Saturday will be last year’s captain Harry Fleet and Ashley Walkey is doubtful for the clash.
