AFTER winning the Olympic Skeet English Open Veteran Class in Bisley last weekend, Lee Bowditch is chasing more success as he is setting his sights on the Olympic Skeet Home International competition in Dublin this August.

The 56-year-old from Beaminster has a glittering palmarès, winning everything that can be won in skeet shooting for his country.

Now, he has stepped into the veterans’ class and is confident he can take gold on the Emerald Isle where he will face competitors from Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Talking about winning the competition, Bowditch said: “It’s my aim, it’s what I’m going there to do.

“I want to pick up the high gun cup for the veterans and I will be locking horns with the other countries.

“I am going to give it 100 per cent.

“There’s no point standing on the line for your country and wave a flag.

“You have to do some business.”

Bowditch will be taking part in a team event as well as the individual contest, and he feels England are favourites for the team prize.

He added: “If everyone can shoot well then we stand a very good chance of picking the lower team award up.”

This will be his 17th appearance for England and he will go across the Irish Sea as just one of two male veterans.

However, he knows the English contingent will be more like a family once the competition gets going.

He explained: “The atmosphere will be great. We all stay together and it is wonderful to be a part of it again.”
