BEAMINSTER Beagles have led the Beaminster and District League for most of the season and they have finally retained their title with three points to spare.

It turned out to be a Beaminster double with the Beaminster Bees taking second place

in the seven-team league which also includes sides from Netherbury, South Perrott and Toller, but a measure of the Beagles’ dominance is shown by their massive shot difference.

They won the league with nine wins out of 12, four of them away from home, and a shot difference of 249, equivalent of winning all their matches by an average of more than 20 points.

By contrast, the Bees finished with less of a sting – a shot difference of just four points.

In the final standings Beaminster Beagles were first on 22 points followed by Beaminster Bees on 19, Netherbury Berries on 16, South Perrott Swallows on 13, Toller Trotters on 10 and South Perrott Swifts on eight with Netherbury Brits taking the wooden spoon on six points.

The Brits appearing in the league for the first time in many years with a team largely made up of relative newcomers to the sport, went with the flow and did better than expected by winning three matches.
