ON SUNDAY, Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club’s men’s competition was the May Stableford and there were 56 entrants.

Conditions were ideal for golf and were especially enjoyed by the two leading men in Division One, Lewis Craddock and Toby Hall, both were on top of their game and both came in with outstanding gross stroke play scores of 72, one over par.

Craddock, with the higher handicap, was the winner with 46 points.

He had five birdies on his card, including three twos, and eight pars.

Hall was two points behind with 44 points and his card included three birdies and 11 pars.

The nearest score by any other player on the course was 37 points and this was carded by third man in Division One, Steve Crabb and winner of Division Three, Ian Pincombe.

The winner in Division Two, after countback with 36 points, was Doug Miners.

Veterans’ Section

THE Thursday competition was a self-entry Bogey.

The term bogey is generally reckoned to be used in connection with things that are unpleasant and as a golf format some would think the term appropriate.

However, this was a ‘self-entry’ competition and nobody held a gun to the heads of the 50 competitors who put their names down to play this somewhat none too popular format.

Only three players managed to finish with a plus score and the winner was Roy Gill (14) carding +2.

Two players then followed with +1 with Dave Boggis (21) taking the runner-up spot from Chris Norsworthy (21) after countback.

Ladies’ Section

TUESDAY saw the ladies play in the Stephens Cup and the fourth round of the 125 trophy, writes Di Neal.

The weather was reasonable and the winner of the cup was Janie Dowling with 31 points.

The runner-up was Liz Thompson.

An inter-club match played at Came Down resulted in a win for the home team.
