UPLYME & LYME REGIS 212-7 beat BARNSTAPLE & PILTON 133 all out by 79 runs

A FINE unbeaten 118 by Adam Caddy put Uplyme & Lyme Regis in the driving seat in their second Devon League C Division match of the season against Barnstaple and Pilton on Saturday.

Inserted on a drying wicket, Uplyme found themselves in trouble losing Rob Thom and Tyler Wellman with only five runs on the board.

This brought together acting skipper Mark Batey and Caddy and between them they put on 84 for the third wicket before Batey was caught for a patient 43.

Having been dropped second ball before scoring, Caddy then took control and stroked his way to a fine hundred which included 7 fours and 10 sixes.

He was supported by Michael Van den Berg (14) and Mark Brimicombe (22 not out) to take the Uplyme score to 212-7.

The Barnstaple batsmen were under pressure from the start and lost Andrew Lack lbw to Nick Dinnison without scoring.

Dinnison went on to record fine figures of 3-16 and impress guest, and match sponsor, Jason Donovan from his hometown club Deepdene Bears from Melbourne, Australia.

All the Uplyme bowlers stepped up to the plate and runs were hard to come by for the visitors.

New signing John Whetlor, returning to his boyhood club, and bowled a fine spell returning with figures of 2-32.

He was well supported by young Rhys Davies who only conceded 22 in his nine over spell and executed a smart run out, but it was Caddy who had the final say in a good overall team performance when he ran out S Bithell (18) and then returned figures of 2-20 with the ball.

The visitors subsided to 133 all out and Uplyme claimed maximum points to kick-start their season.
